Spoilt for choice in St Albans

Every year the St Albans and Harpenden Food and Drink Festival serves up a platter of prestigious awards for the very best of the local areas food venues. If you haven’t worked your way round the 2016 winners yet there is still time to get over to the Best Newcomer on Spencer Street.
Tabure, is a local St Albans restaurant with “a warm and welcoming atmosphere” that embodies everything that people love about Turkish cuisine and culture.  Hulya and Mark are the husband and wife team behind Tabure and their restaurant reflects a passion for great food and service, and a genuine desire to offer diners something new and different. Their story began in a small café, which evolved into an all-day neighbourhood eatery until they out grew the premises. They sold the business and moved to Turkey to spend quality time with their new baby daughter and plan their next venture; the kind of ‘no holds barred’ restaurant that excites and inspires. They travelled  around Turkey researching and discovering ingredients, traditions and dishes with secret recipes – from isot dried chilli pepper, and sumac (a lemony spice), to pul biber (Aleppo pepper) and lamb tail fat. They refined the restaurant concept and chose the menu, but they didn’t have a name.
The final piece of their plan fell into place when one evening a neighbour dropped by to say hello, and was invited in for some çay (tea). On receiving the invite the neighbour called back: “I’ll just grab my tabure”. The restaurateurs looked at each other and knew it was the perfect name for their next eatery. Try out Tabur to enjoy a unique dining experience, to celebrate the very best of Turkish cuisine.
