Picking your own spuds in your St Albans or Harpenden garden is a delight. But if you have not been able to plant any in your garden or allotment this year Willow Potato Patch will save you from disappointment. From the 3rd September 30th September 2018 it’s time to harvest your very own free bag of potatoes at Willows Potato Patch.
At Willows Farm St Albans they have more than 20 tonnes of creamy pink-eyed Picasso potatoes waiting to be harvested. They say the number of spuds available to pick out there is the equivalent of three and a half elephants. They are keen to invite young St Albans and Harpenden harvesters to grab a spade and start digging.
Living outside of the city in places like St Albans and Harpenden offers so many opportunities for children to experience the outdoors environment. Children of any age love to dig up their own potatoes to take home for their whole family to eat. Lots of children have also been donating some of their harvest to the school harvest festival. Being able to have hands-on experiences of harvesting is a fun and exciting way for children to learn about where our food comes from.
There is also the opportunity to get involved with some tattie-tastic potato arts and crafts as well. There will be plenty of arts and crafts for the whole family to perfect their potato printing and in case the sunshine doesn’t last till the end the of September there’s a whole host of other indoor and outdoor activities.
There is so much country life to experience in St Albans and Harpenden while being so close to all the work and entertainment opportunities of central London just 20 minutes or so away by train.
