It’s the last chance to catch The Hurst Children’s Theatre Group’s Aladdin running until 27th January at Harpenden Public Halls. The Hurst Children’s Theatre Group (HCTG) is run by Jonas Hurst he is a qualified teacher and professional musician. He also runs the TV company ‘Presenters Inc’ and spent 10 years as a TV Presenter.

HCTG was set up over 65 years ago in London by Jonas’ Grandmother. It has always been a family-run group which is what makes it special. His Father, Mike Hurst was a well-known record producer who took the Theatre Group to Henley where it still flourishes today. He has 3 sisters who also run their own versions of HCTG. But it is Jonas who runs classes in Harpenden, St Albans.

The Harpenden classes have been run for over 12 years and have over 500 children signed up locally to their groups. The HCTG sessions are for local children practise the art of “theatre”, producing 2 productions per year. They are ideal for children who need help with their confidence and equally good for children with loads of it -an outlet for them to ‘perform’.

Their starting age is just 3years old and they have different aged groups to approximately 16 years old. There is a maximum of 20 young people in each of the weekly one hour classes.  Classes are suitable for boys and girls and contain a mix of singing, dancing and drama. Acting is encouraged through drama games and exercises where they will all be developing various skills along the way, including voice work, working in a group, imitation etc.

If you are thinking of signing your child up for one of The Hurst Children’s Theatre Group’s taking a look at one of their Harpenden production could help you decide if it for you.
