St Albans Shakespeare Festival

If you were worried you had missed the start of the St Albans Shakespeare Festival never fear, 2016 marks the 400th anniversary of the death of the greatest and most famous playwright in English history, and the St Albans Shakespeare festival is running from March to 18th June so you will have plenty of opportunity to enjoy it.
A wide range of creative forms will be celebrating this historic anniversary in St Albans; including theatre, choral singing, symphonic music, poetry, stand-up comedy and dance. The St Albans Shakespeare Festival will be touching on all 37 Shakespeare plays (and his poems) in some form; there will be 31 performances by 14 different artists and companies in a dozen locations across the city. Many but not all of the events will take place at the Maltings Arts Theatre, home of OVO theatre company.  OVO is an award winning theatre company founded in 2002 by Adam Nichols and Simon Nicholas with an outstanding reputation for innovative, imaginative and inspiring theatre.  (OVO comes from the latin ‘ab ovo’ meaning ‘from the beginning’.)the company who are organising the Festival.
If you are new to St Albans The Maltings Arts Theatre is our local Theatre it is a lively, buzzing fringe venue in the centre of St Albans providing high quality performances at affordable prices. They say if you want to “save yourself a trip to the West End and come and sample the artistic delights right here on your doorstep.”
