This event is now in its 35th year, continuing its aim of raising vital funds for local charities. The official charity for the 2016 St Albans’ Half Marathon will be The Hospice of St Francis after a close public vote. Up against this charity were seven other causes, but the hospice was declared the winner and will receive a donation from the profits of the event, plus the benefit of being promoted across the St Albans area in the run-up to the race.

The hospice CEO, said: “I am delighted that The Hospice of St Francis has been chosen to be the beneficiary charity of the St Albans Half Marathon next year. “As the St Albans marathon celebrates its 35th year in 2016, our hospice is also marking a similar milestone having provided hospice care for those living in West Hertfordshire for 36 years and I am aware that so many in the St Albans community have been touched by our care. “I feel so proud to be associated with this major Hertfordshire event and I would personally like to thank everybody who took the time to vote for us.”

There are races for all ages and abilities, including a Half Marathon, Walking Half Marathon, Wheelchair Half Marathon, 5k Race and 1.5 Mile Children’s Fun Run. The St Albans’ Half Marathon is the perfect event for anyone looking for a new challenge, to beat their personal best, or a great way to get the whole family active. They are known as “One of the friendliest events on the calendar - great stuff!”  “A very enjoyable event! A testing but lovely course with nice scenery and great support from locals and marshals. Nice t-shirt, medal and goodies at the finish line.” #icelollyrun.
