Play with sand in St Albans

Until Sunday 15th September 2019 you can play with sand in St Albans at Burston Garden Centre, North orbital road, St Albans, AL2 2DS. The St Albans garden centre has created drop-in sessions for under 5s and school-age kids on Monday to Saturday: 9am to 6pm; and on Sunday: 9am to 5pm. Entry is free. So if you need to take care of your kids and your garden this summer in St Albans and Harpenden, a bit of play with sand could really help.

Over the summer holidays Burston Summer Garden and Sandpit in St Albans has been built for the locals to enjoy. Their new summer garden is complete with sandpit, buckets and spades and outdoor toys. It can be found next to the outdoor seating area, so you'll be able to watch your little ones play in the sand, doodle on our outdoor blackboard or play with our outdoor toys whilst you enjoy a cool drink, and plan what is to be done in your St Albans or Harpenden garden.

You might even consider building your own sandpit for your St Albans or Harpenden garden? Sand is such a great sensory toy for kids as they explore their sense of touch and play and discover the wonderful texture of sand! Sand allows and encourages the making and creating of an imaginary world and stories.  Pretend that cars traveling though tunnels, a frog is sitting in a pond and a little doll is building her own house.

It can also really help develop fine motor skills, eye & hand coordination – watching and doing and coordinating these actions. Sensory development of the sense of touch as well as language development – playing with sand is a social activity requiring speaking and listening, also developing vocabulary.  Who would have thought a little play with sand in St Albans could offer so much.
