New bike for Christmas?

With the fantastic rise in popularity of track and road cycling post the last couple of Olympic games St Albans is not the only place in England with a growing bike club.

Based in St Albans, the Verulam CC is one of the oldest and most active cycling sport clubs in Hertfordshire with over 360 members.  The club was established way back in 1927, and has grown to become a large modern club of bike enthusiasts. They have riders participating in the sport of cycling across a wide range of disciplines, ability levels from serious club riders and competitive racers to riders of any ability aged from 6 onwards.  .

They pride themselves on being a well-organised club enabling members to access many different aspects of cycling but for serious riders the Sunday club runs are really popular with in excess of 100 riders turning out regularly on the roads of Hertfordshire (and beyond).  To help make these rides enjoyable and as safe as possible there is a defined process for welcoming new members.

Before you can join in, you need to be able to ride a minimum of 50 miles (with a short cafe stop) at an average speed of 13 mph. Club runs last a minimum of 4 hours and get back to St. Albans around 1.30pm. You should also have a working knowledge of the Highway Code and have good bike control If you are uncertain about this requirement and want more practice or guidance before joining VCC they suggest you look up the British Cycling website and get practicing.
