There are a host of Halloween and Guy Fawkes events to enjoy in St Albans and Harpenden at this time of year but the city is always good at offering that little bit more. From Monday 28th October 2019 until Friday 1st November 2019 you will be able to take a journey to the moon and stars in the heart of St Albans. In recognition of the 50th anniversary of the Apollo Moon Landing, St Albans Cathedral is offering a spectacular space-themed son-et-Lumiere. Called Space Voyage it is a perfect way to enjoy some of this half term with all the family.
At St Albans Cathedral, St Albans Cathedral, St Albans, AL1 1BY visitors are invited to travel to the edge of the Milky Way and back. You can walk amongst the stars within an ethereal galaxy, and take 'one small step' on the moon as part of this outstanding installation. To fully immerse the visitors to the event both the outside and insides of the Cathedral will be illuminated. Alongside the cosmic light and sound display is a full Space programme of events, including talks, music and children's space-themed trails.
Space Voyage at St Albans Cathedral has been produced by Artistic Collaboration Luxmuralis, they will transform the facade of the Cathedral into a visual journey to the edge of the Milky Way and back. And the longest nave in England will become an ethereal galaxy of light and music. Sit also includes the artwork installation ‘One Small Step’ created by Peter Walker. Using NASA imagery of the lunar surface ‘One Small Step’ brings people together, allowing everyone to contemplate on the future and how individually we may all take ‘One Small Step’ towards our futures.
The Very Rev’d Dr Jeffrey John Dean of St Albans Cathedral, said, “Cathedrals specialise in awe and transcendence. They were built to remind us that we are small and finite in the universe, yet surrounded by the incomprehensible grandeur of creation. Highly recommended for earthlings of every age.”
