It’s hard to miss Strictly fever and now that the Great British Bake Off is over it becomes a firm family favourite for a Saturday-night-in up until Christmas. Living in Hertfordshire, the home of Elstree Studios where the series is made makes it very easy to get to a night of glitz and glamour as an audience member for live television events being put together there.
Known as the birthplace of Star Wars, some of the most famous films in the world have been produced at Elstree Studios such as Indiana Jones and Superman, The Shining, The Danish Girl, Suffragettes, The King's Speech. A bit like St Albans and Harpenden Elstree Studios is very convenient for central London; just 20 minutes by rail from St Pancras, a ten minute walk from the Elstree and Borehamwood train station.
Unfortunately, the ballot for this year's Strictly come Dancing series has closed (the deadline was Thursday 8th September 2016 at 4pm!). But the proximity of Elstree might be worth bearing in mind as tickets to be in the audience there are free. Usually to be in with a chance of getting audience tickets you have to visit the show’s website well in advance and register the dates you are available, then your name will more often than not entered into a random ballot. Alongside Strictly Come Dancing, other live programmes filmed there include Big Brother for Channel 5, The Voice, Celebrity Juice, Never Mind The Buzzcocks, The Chase, Pointless, Room 101, Sweat The Small Stuff, Yonderland and many more.
