Legal expertise

MARLA (Member of ARLA Propertymark) is a professional qualification that demonstrates specialist knowledge of UK residential landlord and tenant law, tenancy management, property management, and lettings compliance.

FARLA (Fellow of ARLA Propertymark) is a higher-level qualification that reflects advanced expertise and significant industry experience in residential lettings, property management, regulatory compliance, and complex landlord and tenant matters.

Legal expertise includes:

Strong understanding of deposit protection, housing regulations, and lettings compliance requirements.
Knowledge of property management legislation, professional standards, and dispute resolution processes.

These are specialist property qualifications rather than legal qualifications, so holders are not necessarily solicitors or barristers.

Professional standards

MARLA and FARLA are recognised professional qualifications awarded by Propertymark. They demonstrate that the holder has achieved industry-recognised qualifications, maintains their professional knowledge, and is committed to operating in accordance with established professional and ethical standards.

Holders must achieve recognised professional qualifications in residential lettings before obtaining membership.
Members are required to undertake Continuing Professional Development (CPD) to keep their knowledge up to date.
Members must comply with Propertymark's Conduct and Membership Rules.
They are expected to uphold high standards of professionalism, integrity, transparency, and accountability.
Membership demonstrates a commitment to best practice and maintaining competence in a constantly evolving regulatory environment.
FARLA status represents the highest level of ARLA Propertymark membership and reflects extensive experience and advanced professional knowledge.

Our letting agents carry out thorough tenant referencing and vetting processes to assess a prospective tenant's suitability and minimise risk for landlords.
