What with January weather there are plenty of muddy monsters out and about in St Albans. Living in St Albans offers so many opportunities for your children to get involved with all kinds of outdoor activities. One great event to get involved with is coming up on Saturday 9th February at the Marlborough Sports Club, (off Cotton Mill Lane) St Albans, AL1 2EF.

In conjunction with the St Albans Verulam Cycling Club, the young ones can really get muddy with the Muddy Monsters off-road winter, kids' cycle races. The events is part of round 4 of the Muddy Monsters Cyclocross / MTB series it is designed for novices so no racing experience is required and its loads of messy fun. 

Any kind of bike can be used by your St Albans small people as long as it has two working breaks. The events, however, are off-road and suitable for mountain bikes or cyclocross bikes. Helmets are required and gloves are recommended for lots of outdoor sports safety is important as is keeping warm, so wrap up or have something to wrap up in after the racing.

If you want to be involved in the St Albans Muddy Monsters races the organisers ask that you arrive at least half an hour before the start so you can sign-in, warm-up, practice the course and collect your race number. Sign in starts at 9.30am for races between 10 am and 12 pm. There will be a 1-lap sprint, a 2-3 lap endurance race and a 2-3 lap handicap race. The cost of entry to the St Albans race is £4 per rider, and you pay on the day. 

The organisers say that entrants for the St Albans Muddy Monster races should not be competing regularly in regional Cyclocross or Mountain Bike series events. The series is designed to invite young people under the age of 16 to give cycle sport a go in a supportive environment with the focus on having fun rather than the competition.
