The Herts 10k starting in Harpenden, has quite a reputation for being one of the most beautiful multi-terrain courses that takes place in the Hertfordshire countryside. The route starts in Rothamsted Park Harpenden and heads out towards Redbourn, along the Nickey Line, before coming back into Rothamsted Park, giving runners the opportunity to enjoy some of the glorious country sights around St Albans and Harpenden. As the event returns on Sunday 9 October 2016 it will be celebrating its eleventh year, and promises to be as popular as ever!
The Herts 10K is Rennie Grove Hospice Care’s flagship fundraising event, attracting thousands of runners and walkers every year. It raises valuable funds to support the charity’s services across Herts and Bucks. Rennie Grove Hospice Care is a charity that provides care and support for patients diagnosed with cancer and other life-limiting illness and their families. Every year through their 24/7 Hospice at Home service, their Family Support services and the range of Day Services on offer at Grove House they give thousands of patients the choice to stay at home, surrounded by their families and friends at the end of their lives.
They receive less than 15% of their running costs from the NHS which is less than half the national average usually given to UK hospices. As a result they rely heavily on the generosity of people like the runners and walkers of the Herts 10K to fund over 85% of their £6.5 million annual running costs.
If you’re not running you can always turn out to support the event cheering on the runners and making your own donation. For more information or to enter the event, visit their website www.herts10k.com and http://www.renniegrove.org/
