St Albans Discovery

St Albans has so much on offer there is always something new to discover but sometimes seasonal favourites are the best. There is a Family Discovery Morning called Animal Fun in the wonderful city resource that is St Albans Cathedral, Sumpter Yard, St Albans, AL1 1BY on Thursday 11th April 2019 from 10 am - 12.30pm.

Springtime and Easter are linked to a variety of animal favourites like lambs, rabbits, ducks and hens especially of the special chick variety. In and around the St Albans cathedral there are hundreds of animals to be found. Some of them are much more of the weird and wonderful variety.

When searching the cathedral for animals expect to be surprised you may spot pelicans, unicorns, peacocks and bears as the Cathedral’s expert Guide explains how animal imagery has been used to tell stories using animals. Down the ages, it is not just traditional animals that have been represented throughout the cathedral building down the ages. Do feel free to bring your binoculars so you can make sure your journey of discovery is full and complete.

Once you have seen how many animals you can find in the cathedral you can then get to be creative and make some animal models of your own. All in the inspiring location that is part of this ancient building at the heart of St Albans. It celebrated its 900th anniversary of the completion and dedication of the Norman abbey in 1115 in 2015. Then in 2016 went to develop the Welcome Centre and improved educational facilities for adults and young people to learn more about history.

Alongside the making, there is also a very special Easter chocolate fountain! That is sure to get everyone excited about Easter. The making activities are suitable for children aged 3 - 12 years old but all children must still be accompanied by an adult as you have fun discovering animals in St Albans.
