Getting fit in Hertfordshire is easy

The St Albans and Harpenden areas have a host of great sports facilities to help with those new year resolutions. In the heart of St Albans is Westminster Lodge which was rebuilt in 2012 and includes a 25m x 10 lane main pool with 50% moveable floor, 17mx10m training pool with 100% moveable floor, confidence water area for children, 4 court sports hall, 200 station fitness gym and youth gym, 2 x exercise / multi-purpose studios, group cycling studio, climbing wall, crèche, spa, children’s soft play area and café.

Westminster Lodge also hosts the Verulamium Spa for health and beauty treatments and the wider Verulamium Park has a whole load of outdoor facilities for the warmer months, hard tennis courts, outdoor pitches, athletics track, a 9 hole golf course and an outdoor Splash Park (open May to September from 10am-6pm for under-12's).

Then there is Hertfordshire Sports Village the multi-purpose student sports facility that is also open to the local community on a pay-as-you go or membership basis. They have a wide range of facilities for fitness, swimming, climbing, racquet sports, football, basketball, volleyball, cricket and more. There are two kinds of access; members can book any activity up to 7 days in advance by phone or in person and pay for that activity when they attend. Non-members have to pay for all bookings at the time the booking is made, must make all bookings in person and can only book 6 days in advance. People with disabilities also have access to all areas of Hertfordshire Sports Village and can use all the services available. There is a disabled lift for ease of movement around the site, hoist for pool access and staff support.  There is no excuse.
