There is no doubting that St Albans is cool and on 22nd September 2019 it will prove its credentials. St Albans’ vintage, retro, history, heritage, classic car spectacular is back for 2019! It’s a day when it appears that you have travelled back in time to celebrate the rich heritage of St Albans and the famous folk of the city through the decades.
There will also be classic cars, motorbikes, scooters and commercial vehicles lining the streets and businesses of all types; shops, restaurants, banks and public houses will be joining in the fun by creating their retro feel. The diverse music, food and fashion of St Albans will have its part to play in the festival too. If you have a classic vehicle you would like to showcase you can also get involved please contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
Heritage Open Days England is the inspiration for this event. It is part of England’s largest festival of history and culture Heritage Open Days. This year the theme has been designated as ‘People Power’. If you are new to St Alban's and Harpenden it is an excuse to just come along and enjoy live music and dancing in the streets. If you want to see what some of your St Albans neighbours get up to – past and present - come and see the performances and activities relating to famous residents (and the areas they influenced like The Arts, Science, Sports and Music). Visitors can also follow a family treasure trail, which will take them around the city stopping at points of interest to answer a question about the history of the site.
Heritage Open Days are England's largest festival of history and culture. They bring together over 2,000 organisations, 5,000 events and 40,000 volunteers. Every year in September places up and down the land throw open their doors to celebrate their heritage, community and history. It’s your chance to see hidden places in St Albans and try out new experiences – and it’s all FREE.
