As the evenings seem to really lengthen on the approach to Christmas a host of Christmas lights and Christmas trees can really lift the spirit. And one St Albans parish church - St Saviour’s put on a really special Christmas event transforming their church into a winter wonderland with 90 sparkling Christmas trees at 25 Sandpit Lane, St Albans AL1 4DF.
St Albans and Harpenden have a fantastic sense of community which is why it is such a sought after place to live so close to London. At St Saviours the trees are all decorated along the theme of “Community at Christmas” by local individuals and groups.
The festivities start on Saturday 16th Dec and they have a packed day starting at 12 noon and running until 6.00pm. Fleetville Swing Band made up of professional and amateur musicians will entertain with swing, jazz and big band era music as will Fleetville Harmony with pop classics, swing, world music and traditional compositions with some seasonal favourites from this popular a Capella mixed-voice group. Then from 5.00–6.00pm Katie’s Jumping Fleas – A high-energy ukulele troupe and close harmony group with an eclectic blend of rock, folk and traditional numbers will take to the stage.
On Sunday 17th Dec 12 there will church services amongst the trees alongside a host of other activities that are open to all. From Monday 18th Dec until Saturday 23rd Dec there are more and more things to do every day leading up to the Christmas weekend when the Festival closes and normal services resume.
