Throughout the year there is plenty of music to satisfy any taste in and around St Albans and Harpenden. With London on your doorstep, there is an even a wider choice but closer to home is a real boon. On Saturday 18th May 2019 Amadeus Chamber Orchestra with Michael Wigram on cello will be playing; Mozart’s Symphony no 35 in D (Haffner) K385, Haydn’s Cello Concerto no. 2 in D and Beethoven’s Symphony no. 1.
Amadeus, the Chamber Orchestra of St Albans have performed in and around St Albans for over 40 years, and have established themselves as the leading chamber orchestra in the area. Michael Wigram who is playing ‘Cello on Saturday enjoys a varied career as a Soloist, Chamber Musician and Teacher as well as playing for many orchestras across the UK and abroad, including the London Philharmonic and European Union Chamber Orchestras. As a soloist, he has performed the Elgar, Dvorak, Shostakovich and Brahms Double Concertos with numerous orchestras including St Albans Symphony Orchestra, Hertfordshire Philharmonia, Kingston Philharmonic and Cyprus Sinfonia in St. John’s Smith Square.
Michael is also much in demand for Chamber music he plays regularly with a number of ensembles including the Berkeley Ensemble, Goldfield Ensemble and Yorke Trio. This has led him to perform in many high calibre venues including the Wigmore Hall, alongside Raphael Wallfisch, Purcell Room and 11 Downing Street.
If you are keen to inspire any younger members of your family to keep up their cello practice Michael is a great role model. As well as working as a performer Michael is very passionate about educating and inspiring young musicians. He has worked for Hertfordshire Music Service since 2006, and regularly coaches cello sections and chamber groups up and down the county.
