Archery in St Albans

We have said it before and we will say it again there is something for everyone in St Albans. The Elswood Bowmen archery club is the local organisation that was founded in 1958 by Guy and Marjorie Ely and caters for archers shooting Recurve, Compound and Longbow. Their outdoor venue is the Cricket Field at Highfield Park in St Albans and its indoor venue is The Old Chapel in Shenley.
The Olympics have helped raise the profile of archery in the UK and there is a national organisation, Archery in the UK structured around clubs, counties and regions, with each organisation playing its part in the development of archers. Clubs like Elswood Bowmen in St Albans provide beginners with courses, and run their own competitions. The counties and regions also run championships and provide routes for progression through coaching and squads.
Archery also has a National Governing Body, Archery GB and it provides infrastructure such as membership services, web site and magazine. It also has a performance unit delivering services to development and elite squads and teams for junior, senior and disabled archers, and is supported by national agencies such as UK Sport.
You can get more information about Archery in the UK by looking the Grand National Archery Society that was founded in 1861.
