The Bob Chilcott singing Day in Harpenden on Saturday 6 April 2019 at St Georges School is not to be missed. It offers a rare opportunity to meet Bob Chicott and to sing under one of the most influential choral musicians of the day.
As a composer, conductor, and singer, Bob Chilcott has enjoyed a lifelong association with choral music. He was a chorister and choral scholar in the choir of King's College, Cambridge, and for 12 years as a member of the King's Singers. He then became a full-time composer producing a large catalogue of music for all types of choirs which is published by Oxford University Press.
The singing day runs from 10.00am until 5.00pm and is suitable for all-comers, aged 10 to 80. No sight-singing experience is required. Tickets cost £25 but drop to £15 for under-18s and full-time students. There is a special offer for a family of 2 adults and up to 2 children from £50 and there are discounts for groups of 10 or more. Don’t miss your chance to join the Lea Singers who host this day with their famous cakes and refreshments. To book phone 07939 366283.
It is also a great way to get a look inside the St George’s School Sun Lane, Harpenden, Hertfordshire, AL5 4TD map. Many move to St Alban's and Harpenden, so their families can attend good schools and St George’s Harpenden, is one of many. The school was established when Rev. Cecil Grant, to use his own words, "migrated" to the town in 1906 from Keswick in the Lake District.
He had wanted a school with its own Chapel and identified vacant buildings in Harpenden which had been built by the Rev. R. H. Wix, and used from 1887 as a boarding school for 100 boys. The Chapel had been added in 1891, and the swimming pool in 1894: a frighteningly fashionable development for the time. Enjoy singing in this historic Harpenden building this spring.
