Innovation in sustainable home design and construction is here to stay.  It was great to see BRE and Look! St Albans as part of Sustainable St Albans recently. If you missed the opportunity to visit them then you can always follow up with a trip to BRE’s Innovation Park. It explores the latest sustainable home design and construction, and how that adds to the value of a property. 

As with so many things St Albans and Harpenden are fortunate to have on their doorstep a host of world-leading innovators. BRE is one of those connected with the future of homes They are a world-leading, multi-disciplinary, building science centre. Its mission is to improve buildings and infrastructure, through research and knowledge generation. They have been working towards making a positive difference in the built environment since 1921.

It can be a really interesting trip with or without the kids to find out more about their cutting-edge research to develop a range of products, services, standards and qualifications. Alongside their passion for inspiring developers and creators to continue to innovate and make effective use of resources, they have a world-leading sustainability assessment method for master planning projects, infrastructure and buildings. 

The focus on sustainable value and efficiency makes BREEAM certified developments attractive property investments. They also believe it generates sustainable environments that enhance the well-being of the people who live and work in them. 

It is good to see that there are bodies that are looking towards continuous improvement and innovation in home building by setting and assessing against a broad range of scientifically rigorous requirements.
