Hert's community Christmas spirit

With Christmas nearly here it might be time to start to enjoy the community spirit of the St Albans and Harpenden Christmas season. The Redbourn Christmas Market from 11am - 5pm on Sunday 3rd December 2017 might help. Hertfordshire is full of pretty historic villages and Redbourn is no exception making it a perfect place to visit as well as to start to celebrate community.
The Redbourn annual winter festival stands as a testament to community spirit in Hertfordshire. Back in early in 2012 an advert was placed in the Redbourn Post Office window listing a meeting in the Parish Centre. Was anyone interested in talking about ways in which the village Christmas lights could be improved? This meeting resulted in a Committee being formed to look at fund raising rather than running lots of small fund raising initiatives it was decided to organise a Christmas Market.
The Committee set two key aims: to create an event for the enjoyment and benefit of the whole community and to raise funds to purchase Christmas lights for Redbourn. The organising committee is made up of volunteers who give up their time to organise and run this not for profit community event. Every year the market has grown and added to the lighting display in Cumberland Gardens.
The 2016 market was the biggest event to date with over 100 stalls booked so it can only get better. In addition to the stalls, there will be a Santa’s Grotto, children’s craft activities, a range of entertainment, a raffle and refreshments, including mulled wine and mince pies of course.
