With the start of term looming and the routine about to settle down don’t let after school snacks get you down. No more boring sandwiches get creative and make sure they get to eat the right stuff to help them through those back to school early evenings.

Research shows that eating peanuts can decrease your risk of heart disease, diabetes, and other chronic health conditions. So it makes an ideal after school snack . To make it fun how about making and peanut butter and jelly sushi roll?
You will need:
2 x tablespoons of creamy peanut butter -(if peanuts don't work for your family you could always use almond butter)
2 x tablespoons of their favourite jam OR for a savoury option 2 tablespoons preserves
2 x slices of bread
Remove the crusts from bread. With a rolling pin flatten the bread a bit so it will roll. Spread 1 tablespoon of peanut butter and 1 tablespoon of fruit spread on each slice of bread then roll each slice into a tight spiral and cut it into 4 pieces for a more healthy jam roll.
You can also use peanut butter direct on apples too. Why not have a go at coring and cutting into wedges a crispy autumn apple and spreading it with some crunchy or creamy peanut butter evenly on the side of the wedges as an even faster to make home from school snack to fill the gap till tea.
