Going Green inside

John Lewis has recently reported that the colour we can’t get enough of in our homes right now is green. This comforting, soothing shade welcomes a touch of nature into our living spaces they say. The retailer also reports a large percentage of their homeware sales are green wallpaper designs.

Decorating with green breathes new life into any room they say. With a broad spectrum of shades available across the market, from cool mint green to brooding forest green, the look you create for your Harpenden or St Albans home is totally up to you.

‘The colour green is having a moment with our customers,’ says Lorna MacPhee, Furnishing Accessories Assistant Buyer at John Lewis & Partners. ’30 per cent of our 100 best-selling designs predominantly feature green.’  As a general rule when decorating with green the look is soothing and serene thanks to its association with nature.

John Lewis is really encouraging customers to welcome the outside in with botanical wallpapers, shades of green paint and foliage and they tend to set the standard for many in a season. Their Best-selling wallpapers demonstrate the popularity of all things inspired by nature. Their Ipanema wallpaper, taken from the archives is an exotic design which features an artist’s impression of lush tropical foliage and toucans, is a best seller. The Cole & Son Great Vine Wallpaper is another best-selling design this bold print takes inspiration from the Great Vine at Hampton Court Palace.

Green on the walls undoubtedly creates a peaceful environment, perfect for a study or bedroom. Olive green is apparently trending in kitchens in particular. If you want to bring a bit more green inside your St Albans or Harpenden home 2019 is the year to do it.
