Comic books in Harpenden

Harpenden might not be NYC but you can be anywhere you want to be in a comic or comic book in Harpenden. Running until Sunday the 18th August 2019 from 9 am to 5 pm (check Sunday opening times) Oxfam Books & Music at 5 Harding Parade, Harpenden, AL5 4SW will be running a Comics and Comic Books Promotion.

The window of the Harpenden shop will be full of generously donated comics, comic books & collectables on this theme. It’s a great way to find out more about comics and see if that will inspire your children to get reading this summer in Harpenden and St Albans. They say they will have something for everyone - children, teens and collectors, from Beano to Batman, Shazam!, Superheroes, Spiderman and many more. There will also be a large selection of DC, Marvel and other comics to browse.

Comics and comic books are a great gateway to moving children closer to reading chapter books, and they provide lots of visual stimulation along with some basic reading comprehension. If you can’t find what you are looking for at Oxfam in Harpenden there are a lot of comic books to be found in the Harpenden library at 27 High St, Harpenden AL5 2RU or in Harpenden books48 the High Street Harpenden.

As a parent, if you are not into comics it can be hard to choose out of a multitude of options in the comic book sections but as with any other form of supporting your child's reading you just need to get involved. Countless research shows the links between good reading skills from an early age and future success in life. However, we also know it can be hard to get children really excited by books given the many other exciting leisure time activities fighting for their attention. Above all reading should be fun perhaps some comic books in Harpenden might be a start.
