Christmas lights switch-on in St Albans & Harpenden

Forget Oxford Street the lights will be switched on in St Albans and Harpenden this weekend! We'll be there on Saturday giving out balloons in the square and outside our branch in Wheathampstead.The Christmas Lights Switch-on in St Albans marks the start of the Christmas Markets on 27th November, with a whole host of music and entertainment throughout the afternoon before four simultaneous switch-ons at 5pm that cater to a range of styles.
At the Taxi Rank Stage outside the BeechHouse and the Cock pubs there are events all day but at 5.00 -5.15pm the lights are switched on accompanied by the Blue Angel Acoustic/Panto Stars followed by The St.Albans Winter Dance Party. For Family Fun at the Alban Arena,  there will be free face painting from the Glitterbox, costumed characters from Wish Upon a Party, the Rotary's Letter to Santa chalet, the St Albans Library Services with costumed characters and activities and more. At St Albans Clock Tower there will be a Giant Snow Globe, stilting elves, a giant walking Christmas Present and other street artists throughout the day alongside the Alban City Band playing traditional brass music at the switch on at 5pm in the presence of the Mayor. Finally over at St Albans Christmas Market in the Vintry Garden various other performances will be showcased with  shopping, festive food and drink for the switch on at 5pm, with an after party from 6-8pm.

Along side all this Meraki XmasFest will include performances, singalong music area, silent disco, chill out space and more in a bespoke area in front of the Town Hall. There will be an Apres Ski Bar with Fire Pit (in Market Place) Provided by Dylans Kings Arms, serving Fire Grilled Alpine Burgers, Swiss Cheese & Tobacco Onions, Fire Pit Pepper Ketchup plus "On The Piste” Hot Toddies plus a Winter G&T, Nyetimber & Unfiltered Lager with Funfair, rides and games on Chequer Street outside the Maltings.
