Always something to do in St Albans

Whether you have lived in the St Albans and Harpenden area forever or are interested in moving to the area you can always be sure to find something new to do. If you haven’t been to the The Maltings Arts Theatre it might be time to look them up.  They are a lively, buzzing fringe venue in the centre of St Albans who aim to provide high quality performances at affordable prices and act as a platform for the best local creative talent.
Coming up soon is their SONDHEIM’S A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC 4th May - 19.30 & 6th May - 14.30 & 19.30. This popular multi-award winning Irrational theatre production has music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and is directed and designed by Paula Chitty.  It is a studio production of this witty Sondheim musical performed with piano and viola. It is one of Sondheim’s most complex and pleasing scores and includes Send in The Clowns, Weekend in the Country. A Glamourous Life
The Maltings Arts Theatre has been a part of St Albans’ cultural life for the past 30 years, building a rich heritage and providing a home for scores of live performance events that might otherwise have struggled to find a stage. Many of the great performers of the last three decades have appeared at the venue – from Eddie Izzard to Steven Berkoff, Red Shift to Stan Tracey.
Originally run by St Albans City and District Council, OVO took over the management of the Maltings in 2011 and a largely volunteer team has rejuvenated the venue’s fortunes whilst simultaneously reducing its cost to local taxpayers by 90%. The innovative partnership between OVO and St Albans City and District Council has been nationally recognised as an example of best practice in the field of community led arts provision.
